Alfred University assistant dean Corey Fecteau wins award at Tri-County Arts Council show
Corey Fecteau, assistant dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Alfred University and a three-time alumna of the university, was honored for a piece of art she entered into the recent Tri-County Arts Council’s annual small works member show.
Fecteau’s piece, “Invocation: Artist Conk,” was selected by the independent juror for the Amateur Best in Show award at the Tri-County Arts Council’s small works member show. The show, “A Little Something,” opened Nov. 15 at the Peg Bothner Gallery at 110 State Street in Olean, NY, and remains on view through Jan. 11. Her award-winning piece features mushroom spore prints on an artist conk fungus with oak galls.
Two other pieces of Fecteau’s art are featured in the show: “Invocation: Alaska Cove” (mixed media) and “Shag Island” (watercolor sketch). Both of those pieces were started or created during her residencies at the Keyes Family Estate in Maine, Summer 2023 and 2024.
Fecteau earned a B.F.A. degree and a bachelor’s degree in art history and theory from Alfred University in 2001 and 2015, respectively, and a master’s degree in college student development, also from Alfred University, in 2019. She has been assistant dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences since August 2021. Fecteau has also served Alfred University as art career advisor in the Career Development Center, and as assistant director of admissions and graduate admissions counselor.
